It’s been a lengthy hiatus from blogging, but I’m back and ready to infrequently blog again. Although I’m pretty sure anybody reading this already knows my life story, here’s a quick recap of the year since the last post on Floyd’s Lair:
- I went to the Online News Association conference in Toronto, where my team gave a presentation on our news website application “VoxPop.” A decent example of how VoxPop would have worked is here, on this blog that likely attended the ONA conference and stole our idea.
- I finished up my critically-acclaimed though poorly-read one-and-a-half-year run on the headline-humor column Hawk Topics.
- While I stopped blogging at the Lair, I did a weekly blog for my “Multimedia Editing” class. I actually won an award from the Society of Professional Journalists for one of my posts.
- In January I began work on my epic thesis, titled “Uses and Gratifications of Facebook for Political Information.” Six months later, I defended and submitted the final draft, thus finalizing my master’s degree in journalism.
- In January I also purchased a Playstation 3 and Rock Band. It changed my life in a profound and positive way.
- At the end of July, I moved back to Wichita to live rent-free until finding real work like a real adult. I’m currently in the process of applying at several prestigious publications, while working part time as a projectionist at a downtown theater/sports bar. I’ve watched Dark Knight like 20 times now.
